Latoka’s Attack
Two months ago a very important member of the Barkers in Balance team was rushed to the emergency vet after being attacked and pinned down by a huge off-leash mastiff dog. I think it was the shock that enabled her to walk home but the pain began to be unbearable. She started to not eat or drink, and couldn’t settle so we knew we had to take her in.
After being sent home, we managed to get into our own vet a few days later who discovered it was an infected puncture wound from the dog attack. She took her temperature and found a fever and gave her antibiotics and pain relief and she says she should start to feel better in a couple of days. She says she would be very bruised inside after the attack.
About a week or so later Lakota started some rehab work with Sharon from K9 comfort. She explained how anxious she would be after such a scary attack and gave my us a number of ideas to help me relax and decompress. She also gave her some lovely massages and used a little gadget to help release tension in my shoulders, and thinks that could be from Lakota bashing into doorways with the cone on. She also used and infrared pad to help the wound heal. The groovy green jungle print tape is a special tape to help relieve inflammation and to help the wound continue to drain. Some would say Lakota is a a pampered pooch!
We am now continuing to do rehab exercises with her at home to get her back to her old self. She has been very brave and we are very proud
