Puppy School Courses
We specialise in Newcastle puppy training, Port Stephens puppy training, Hunter puppy training and Maitland puppy training.
During a 4-week course puppies and their humans will learn about:
- Basic obedience
- Food and resource guarding
- Bite inhibition
- Recall with distractions
- When to play and when to settle
- Keeping discipline positive
- Desensitisation to handling and new sounds and sights
- Anti-jumping techniques
- Appropriate socialisation and play behaviours.
Level 1 – Good Manners Course
This is the time in a dog’s life when he/she needs to learn that it’s time to act like a “grown up dog”
- Basic obedience with distractions
- Correct leash walking, minimising pull on the leash
- Holding the dog’s attention with increasing distractions
- Strategies to reduce jumping up
- Developing and maintaining a reliable “Stay”
- Recall over increasing distances and with increasing distractions
- Appropriate greeting and socialisation between dogs
- Mealtime manners
Advanced Courses
The prerequisite for these courses is completion of the Level 1 Good Manners course.
During a 6-week course puppies and their humans will learn about:
Level 2:
- Introductory agility
- Longer, stronger “Stays”
- Off-lead recalls with distractions
- Refining recalls with a “Finish
- Cueing your dog over longer distances
Level 3:
- Heeling off lead with distractions
- Advanced recalls past other dogs
- Long distance cues in novelty events
- Team events for increased co-operation and focus
Assistance Dog Training
- Training to prepare for the Public Access Test
- Initial assessment of the dog’s capabilities
- Individual training of basic skills
- Group training to build reliable focus
- Individual practice in public environments
- Introduction to support services where required
- PAT test conducted by our behavioural vet
Reactive Rehab Course
During a 6-week course reactive rehab dogs will learn to:
- relax in the presence of other dogs
- respond faster to commands in the presence of other dogs
- voluntarily focus on the human in the presence of other dogs
- practise appropriate ways of greeting other dogs
- disengage from other dogs before they have gone over their tolerance threshold.
The humans will learn:
- strategies to use when their dog becomes agitated
- checking their own body language when handling their dog
- more about dog body language and how to read this in their own dogs in times of stress.
Private Consultations
Private consultations are the ideal way to learn about your dog without the distractions of other dogs and people. This service enables us to tailor a program to cater specially to your dog’s needs. These consultations can be held in your own home or in one of our venues. Some of the behaviours we can assist you with include:
