Preventably “Dangerous” Dogs
Sometimes our work is more than you would expect it to be.
Yesterday I saw a client with a dog that has been declared dangerous.
The dog belongs to her nephew who is in rehab. The dog has had a colourful life and resided in some seedy places with the nephew.
He was declared dangerous because he bit a child who tried to touch him while he was eating. So many things are wrong with this story!
The consequence of this is that the dog must live in a secure enclosure at home. In public he must wear a specifically marked collar and a muzzle.
The woman believes she can have the dog assessed this September to have the ban lifted. The assessment will be done by a qualified temperament assessor who will charge her $550.

She may also need legal representation and other collated evidence to present to the council.
This situation could have been totally preventable with proper education of both the dog and the owner, starting from the dog’s puppyhood.

That’s why I do what I do. That’s why I’m educating you to spread the word.!
