We love what we do
Today I’d like to thank the Department of Education for awarding me a cadetship in 1985 to attend university full time to study behavioural science through Special Education.
I’m not sure if they intended me to use this qualification to help people live harmoniously with dogs but I’ve always been a bit creative!
You see, this week I worked with a young mother in a domestic violence situation. She has two children aged two and three. One child has significant developmental delays AND she has a 15 week
old German Shepherd puppy. My challenge has been to devise a management plan for dogs and children so that she doesn’t lose the dog or worse still the children.

Tomorrow I will work with a woman who owns a 14 month old Dachshund that she wants as a companion dog. Pretty straightforward except that the woman has dementia. My challenge there will be to work in-person to connect with her and keep her focus. I will then need to write a program that has meaning to the woman when she refers to it each day.
I love what I do, and I love when what we do CAN make a real difference to the lives of others
